The best way to apply foils is to paint a matching base color first, so if the foil doesn't transfer perfectly you have something under it. My base color today is butter LONDON Come to Bed Red. Then I applied foil adhesive, and waited a few minutes. Finally, I cut the foil into little strips -- one for each nail. I apply them by pressing them down with a Q-Tip and then peeling off the foils. If you are interested in a tutorial, let me know!
This foil is from Dollar Nail Art and it's called Lava Tides. It's gorgeous! Red and shiny with holographic waves. I really love how this looks, and it is perfect for Valentine's Day! Trust me, this looks way prettier in person!
These are so shiny! And in real life, they don't look quite so fragmented at the ends. Here is a picture with flash to show off the lovely holographic waves! You can see it's almost blurry -- my camera couldn't handle these!
I have a little tip to share as well! I know it is hard to find topcoats that work with foils, because they often crinkle. I have found that NailTek I Maintenance works great as a foil topcoat! It is meant as a strengthener/maintenance product, but it did a good job at sealing my foil mani as well.
Have you ever tried transfer foils?

P.S. Check out what the other participants did this week!

ReplyDeleteI agree with aly7 - tutorial. The foil gives the color so much depth...love it!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly! You definitely should :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lariesa! You should! They are so fun to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! They come in a long strip and you cut them into nail-sized pieces. Then you apply a base color and transfer adhesive. Then you press the foils onto the nail! It sounds complicated, but isn't.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you too!
Thanks, Jenni Lee! You definitely should -- they're gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kimberly! You should definitely take a look at Dollar Nail Art -- I love the foils I got from them!

ReplyDeleteI've never tried foils, I love the way it looks, I'm just nervous about cutting them into the right shape for my nail - I'm super anal!!! These are gorgeous, have you ever tried doing nail art on these?!? Or cutting them into shapes and then applying them?!?
ReplyDeleteA tutorial would be great for this technique. Haven't had a chance to try foils yet, but yours look so lovely, I'll have to try it soon!
