Essie Trophy Wife

Here's a polish I grabbed from my untrieds. For a long time I'd always pick this polish up at the store, but I never actually bought until this Winter. I was always worried that it would be too frosty for my tastes, because I just hate brushstrokes. Luckily for me, it was not!

Essie Trophy Wife is a gorgeous deep teal with a pearl finish. Very shiny and a bit deeper toned on the edges than in the center of the nail. The first coat was not looking too pretty, but Trophy Wife looks perfect at 2 coats.

I am definitely glad that I finally pulled the trigger on this shade. Essie Trophy Wife is a really beautiful color that manages to have a nice pearl finish without any brushstrokes.

Mattése Elite Carnaval Collection

I was recently sent some of the Mattése Elite Carnaval Collection, and I am in love! The collection is built on the theme of Brazil's Carnaval. Now, if you know anything about Carnaval, you know it is one big, bright, crazy party! Mattése Elite captured that mood perfectly with the polishes. I have 3 to show you today: Desfiles de Samba, Rainha, and Rei Momo.

Desfiles de Samba is a super bright green jelly crème. Mattése Elite describes it as "parade-worthy" and it definitely lives up to the name. Application was easy, though it did take 3 coats to reach opacity.

Rainha, which means "queen" in Portuguese, is another very bright polish. This one is a true crème, described as "regal baby pink." Again, the description is spot on with this color. It was super pigmented and covered well in 2 coats.

Rei Momo is my favorite of the three colors I received. It is a "high-voltage hot pink" crème according to Mattése Elite. Rei Momo leans almost red, a seriously bright neon pink. This was also very pigmented, and was opaque in 2 easy coats.

I also did a quick comparison between these two pinks. It's crazy how they are both bright pink crèmes, but they look so different! Rei Momo definitely leans red, whereas Rainha is a true bright baby pink.

These gorgeous Mattése Elite shades retail at $5.99 and are exclusive to Ricky's NYC stores and the Ricky's NYC Website. There are 4 other shades in the Carnaval Collection as well. I have my eye on the bright purple crème.

Sally Hansen Gem Crush Lady Luck

Sally Hansen recently released some beautiful glitters under the name Gem Crush. Some were very similar to the Wet N Wild Ice Baby glitters, but some were unique and lovely. Now, I love glitter and I love drugstore polishes. Gem Crush was made for me! :)

Lady Luck is a really interesting glitter. It has tons of burgundy micro glitters and some slightly larger holographic glitters. The burgundy is really great for my skin tone, and the holographic pieces really kick it up a notch.

I was really impressed with the opacity of Lady Luck. It only took me 2 coats to reach a fully opaque look! In these pictures, I am wearing a thick coat of Seche Vite to smooth everything out.

Mm...I just love glitter! I think it is so fun and sparkly.

Did you pick up any of the Sally Hansen Gem Crush polishes?

Sally Hansen Purple Pizzazz

Recently, I realized that even though purple is my favorite color, I don't have much purple nail polish. So lately I have trying to rectify that! This polish is one I picked up recently, after having heard all about it on MUA.

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Purple Pizzazz is a beautiful deep purple jelly with tiny glass flecks. Now, I love purple and I really love jellies -- this polish is right up my alley! I had no trouble with application at all. Since it is a jelly, Purple Pizzazz took 3 coats to be opaque. Completely worth it if you ask me!

I just love this polish! The jelly has so much depth to it. Purple Pizzazz has that beautiful squishy look of a jelly, plus some lovely little purple glass flecks.

It's amazing the beautiful polishes you can find at a drugstore. This lacquer has lots of depth, and it is a super flattering shade of purple. I am very glad that I picked it up.

What's your favorite drugstore polish?

Finger Paints Motley

Today I have a really pretty polish to start off the week. As you probably know, Finger Paints released a much-coveted flakie line called Special Effects recently. I rushed to the store the day they came out, and bought a set for myself and a set for my current giveaway.

This is Motley, a gorgeous flakie top coat made of of lots of blue and green particles. Sound familiar?  Flecked, which I wore the other day, is also green and blue. However, Flecked is much greener and Motley is bluer. Here I am wearing 2 coats of Finger Paints Motley over Essie Power Clutch.

Pretty, isn't it? I am still loving these flakies just as much as I hoped I would. They really add something special to any manicure.

If you'd like to enter for a chance to win Finger Paints Motley along with 3 other flakies, take a look at my giveaway!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Some people seem to hate on Valentine's Day, but not me! I love all things pink and sparkly, plus I think it is a nice excuse to go on a date. And chocolate is always good!

For this Valentine's Day, I chose to do a very girly skittle manicure. Take a look first, and I'll list the polishes used after the jump.

Illamasqua Spring Polka Dots

A week or so ago St. Louis had some amazing spring-like weather. People were wearing shorts in January and February! To celebrate the lovely weather, I opted for a cheery polka dot look. The perfect shades? Three Illamasquas.

I wore Illamasqua Lament as a base, and used a dotting tool for polka dots. The green dots are Illamasqua Milf and the purple ones are Illamasqua Jo'Mina. All three colors were just lovely to use. They each dried very quickly, so I had no problems with drag when I applied top coat.

I think that polka dots are just perfect for a cheery manicure. They are always cute, and they aren't hard to do at all! That is my favorite type of manicure :D

Let me know what you think of this mani, and come back tomorrow to see my take on a Valentine's Day look!

Matte Glitter, Y U SO PRETTY?

One of my absolute favorite looks is matte glitter. I just think it is so pretty and so unique. I was feeling a bit uninspired looking at my stash, so I decided to go with a nice matte glitter look.

I used Orly Frolic, which is a bright purple/pink crème. It's also nearly impossible to photograph. Last time I swatched it, the pictures showed a creamy medium purple. However, it looks very fuchsia in these pictures, and on my hands. A chameleon, I'd say. The glitters are Sally Hansen Ice Queen. The Sally Hansen was pretty sheer, so I layered 3 thin coats on top of Frolic. Everything has been mattefied with Orly Matte Top.

So, what do you think? I really like this combo. Matte glitter always makes me happy :D

Nicki Minaj Glitter Gradient

Wow, I have been a lazy blogger! Sorry for the lack of posts. I have been busy with all my real life responsibilities, but now I am back. And with a vengeance!

The fantastic Nicki Minaj recently released a collection along with OPI. OPI Save Me is a glitter polish from this collection, and is comprised of silver micro glitter and blue and silver holographic bar glitter. How great is it to see OPI coming out with bar glitter?! Some people are staunchly anti-bar glitter, but I love it.

Here I have 3 coats of Essie Raise Awareness as a base. Then I dabbed on some NOPI Make a Comet-ment and OPI Save Me. Take a look :D

Nicki is know for her crazy outfits, hair, and personality. Plus she's one of the best female rappers ever! I'll admit that I was at first disappointed by the lack of originality in the crèmes of the collection. But luckily, the glitters are gorgeous!

Essie Raise Awareness

This past October, Essie released a breast cancer awareness color called Raise Awareness. As a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, my sisters and I have done a lot to raise awareness for breast cancer awareness. I think it is great to see big companies like Essie promoting breast cancer awareness. Though I do wish that other cancers received the same amount of attention!

That said, Raise Awareness is a beautiful light pink crème. A couple weeks ago, DBF told me he prefers more "traditional" and "feminine" nail colors. How cute :) So I went searching in my stash for something that fit the bill. Strangely, I have a lot more green than I do pink! Finally I stumbled upon Raise Awareness in my untrieds.

I am so happy I tried it! Take a look at 3 thin coats of Essie Raise Awareness.

Something about this polish makes my hands look SO tan! I am always a fan of that :) Formula on this was good, especially for such a light pink. It took 3 coats, but was not goopy or streaky. I really like the feminine, clean look of this polish.

I think I might have to try out some more "traditional" colors. It feels so different and classy for me! It is definitely a nice break from all the crazy glitters and shades I am normally sporting!
